Mozy Gripes

Mozy is an online file storage company

See my blog

July 30, 2007. I griped about Mozy on my CNET blog.

See Everybody likes Mozy - except me. Part 1. In brief, I don't like backup software that runs all the time and I'm wary of depending on new version 1 software for something as important as file backups. You can't use their web interface to backup files and they charge more for each computer that you want to backup from. And the big point was that they delete your file backups if you delete the original file from your computer.

Everybody likes Mozy - except me. Part 2. July 31, 2007. Two more articles with positive things to say about Mozy, lead off this blog posting. Then I explain how the encryption offered by Mozy may not offer all the security you think it does. In fairness to Mozy, I don't like the idea of any company that is storing my files providing software to encrypt them. Instead, I prefer to get the two services from two different companies. There are gripes about restoring files and other gripes too.

Finally, I end up discussing warranties. An article by Ed Foster describes how five different backup services don't guarantee anything at all.
